Twin Peaks: Season 3, Part 14 "We are Like the Dreamer" Review

 "I'll eat you."
-Sarah Palmer

Part 14 picks up with Gordon Cole (David Lynch) calling Sheriff Frank Truman (Robert Forster).  Truman informs Gordan about the discovery of the pages of Laura Palmer's (Sheryl Lee) diary and that they suggest there are two Cooper's (Kyle MacLachlan).

Albert Rosenfield (Miguel Ferrer) tells Tammy Preston (Chrysta Bell) about the very first Blue Rose case, which was investigated by Gordan and Phillip Jeffries (David Bowie).  They came across two versions of a woman named Lois Duffy, one of whom was a doppelganger who was conjured, also known as a Tulpa.

The agents question Diane (Laura Dern) about the last night she saw Cooper and she confirms that he mentioned Major Briggs (Don S. Davis).  They tell her about a ring found in Briggs' stomach and that the names of Dougie (Kyle MacLachlan) and Janey-E (Naomi Watts) were inscribed on the ring.  Diane reveals her half-sister goes by Janey-E and that she is married to a man named Dougie Jones and that they live in Las Vegas.  Gordon calls the FBI office in Las Vegas and has them start looking for Dougie and Janey-E.  Gordan then tells Albert and Tammy about a dream he had that involved Cooper, Phillip Jeffries, and Monica Bellucci.

Sherriff Truman, Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook), Deputy Andy (Harry Goaz), and Deputy Hawk (Michael Horse) arrest Chad (John Pirruccello) before heading out on their expedition to Jack Rabbit's Palace and find Naido (Nae Yuuki).  A portal opens above them and Andy is transported away and meets the Fireman (Carel Struycken), who shows him many things before sending him back to Twin Peaks.  Andy tells the others that they need to protect Naido as there are people after her.  They take her back to the Sherriff's Department and put her in a cell for her protection.

It's revealed that James Hurley (James Marshall) currently works as a security guard at the Great Northern.  He talks with his coworker, Freddie Sykes (Jake Wardle), who tells James that he also entered a portal and met the Fireman, who told him to buy a single, green glove and move to Twin Peaks from London to find his destiny.  Once he puts the glove on, he can't take it off, but it gives his super-strength.

Sarah Palmer (Grace Zabriskie) goes to a bar, where she is harassed by a drunk.  Sarah eventually removes her face and shows something monstrous to the drunk.  She then puts her face back on and bites out the man's throat, which kills him.

At the Roadhouse, Sophie (Emily Stofle) and Megan (Shane Lynch) discuss the missing Billy.  Megan and her mother, Tina, were the last people to see Billy, who randomly ran into their house while bleeding from the face before running off.  They then watch Lissie perform.

What Works:

I love the conversations at the beginning of the episode between Gordon, Albert, Tammy, and Diane.  We finally get to know what the significance of the Blue Rose is and it's cool to learn more about the origin of these cases.  Plus we get the exciting reveal that Diane and Janey-E are half-sisters.  At this point in the show, with only a handful of episodes left, I was wondering how in the world Cooper was going to get back into the fold of the story and this was a very exciting development.  Plus the Monica Bellucci appearance is just so strange, but wonderful.

It's a brief scene, but the phone call Gordon makes to the Las Vegas office and the aftermath is hysterical.  We get Agent Headley (Jay R. Ferguson) randomly yelling at Agent Wilson (Owain Rhys Davies), which never fails to make me laugh.  It's just such an absurd and uncalled for reaction and I love it.

It's wonderful to watch Chad suffer.  Seeing him get arrested and then have to deal with the strange noises from Naido and a random drunk is pretty great.

The Jack Rabbit's Palace expedition has a very exciting payoff.  I love that Andy is the one chosen to meet with the Fireman.  It's not confirmed, but I think that the place Andy is taken is the White Lodge and of course Andy is the one who can enter.  He's such a pure and wholesome guy that it just makes sense to me.  It's definitely strange to see Andy show up in one of the supernatural locations.  That's never happened before, but I think it's pretty fantastic.  Plus the way he takes charge in handling Naido is really great character development.

I know not everybody likes Freddie, but I really enjoy the character and his backstory is fascinating.  He's just such a strange addition to the show and I find him interesting.  Jake Wardle gets to tell a really wild story and it honestly got me very excited to find out how Freddie and his glove would come into play.

Sarah Palmer removing her face is one of the most memorable moments of The Return.  I have absolutely no idea what's going on with her character, but this scene is the stuff of nightmares.  Her inside face and subsequent murder of the drunk is a highlight of the series.

Finally, I haven't mentioned the performances at the Roadhouse very much, but I wanted to mention Lissie because her performance of "Wild West" is my favorite of the Roadhouse performances.  I love this song and it's a great way to end the episode.

What Sucks:

I got nothing for you.

Crystal Coffee:

The Crystal Coffee Award goes to the most competent character of the episode.  For Part 14, this Award goes to Sarah Palmer for murdering the drunk guy that was harassing her and playing it off like she had nothing to do with his death.  It seems like she got away with it.  This is her 1st time winning this Award.

Verdict:

This is another fantastic episode with some storylines finally getting tied together, some great performances, Sarah Palmer taking her face off, and bad things happening to Chad.  This episode does a great job of getting me excited for the endgame of the season, but still manages to be completely entertaining and wild on its own.  It absolutely has got it going on.

 10/10: Amazing
