Survivor: Island of the Idols, Episode 12 "Just Go for It" Analysis

"Oh no!  Words!"
-Elaine Stott

Wow.  This was a shocking episode.  I'm glad to see Dan go, but it shouldn't have taken this long.  The rest of the episode was very entertaining with some interesting gameplay.  Let's take a closer look.

Who Played Well

We'll start with Dean who managed to get himself off the bottom and into a Final Three deal with Tommy and Dan (even if that won't be happening any more).  He also spotted Janet and Tommy finding the Idol, won the Idol Nullifier, won Immunity, and got rid of Elaine.  I do think he gave away too much information about his Nullifier to his alliance, but overall it was a solid episode for Dean.

Finally, we have Tommy, who pulled Dean into a Final Three with himself and Dan, which was a great spot for Tommy.  He also managed to get rid of Elaine.

Who Sucked

Janet and Lauren made a bad call in knocking out Elaine.  They've weakened their position and should have gone after Noura.  They got incredibly lucky that Dan was pulled from the game.  Janet did manage to find an Idol, but shouldn't have told Tommy and should have been more careful.  Dean spotted her and that might be her undoing.

Noura managed to survive the episode, but I don't think she did herself any favors.  She was the target of the split vote and her general craziness makes her an unsavory alliance partner.

As for Elaine, she did the best she could in this episode.  She said all the right things.  Lauren and Janet simply made the wrong move.  It makes sense for Tommy, Dean, Dan, and Noura to target her, but it's a shame to see her go.

As for Dan, he sucks.  Don't touch people who don't want to be touched.  It's not that hard.  Good riddance.

Verdict:

The Best Player of the Episode is obviously Dean Kowalski for getting into a Final Three, spying on Janet and Tommy, getting the Idol Nullifier, winning Immunity, and getting rid of Elaine.

The Worst Player of the Episode is Lauren Beck for not taking the opportunity to take out Noura.

I'm pumped that Dan, Elizabeth, Missy, and Aaron aren't in the finale.  And Dan isn't on the jury.  I have no idea who is going to win this thing, so I'm actually pretty excited to see how this ends.  The reunion show situation will also be interesting.  Regardless, I'm ready to wrap things up and move on the season 40.
