Lost: Season 5, Episode 10 "He's Our You" Review

Image
"You're a killer, Sayid." -Ben Linus   "He's Our You" picks up with a flashback to when Sayid (Naveen Andrews) showed he had a killer instinct as a child and showed no hesitation in killing a chicken.  Years later, Sayid and Ben (Michael Emerson) finish killing off everyone on Ben's list and part ways.   Some time later, Sayid is building houses in the Dominican Republic.  He is approached by Ben who tells him that John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) has been murdered and that Hurley (Jorge Garcia) is being watched. Sayid refuses to go with Ben, but makes his way to the States on his own. After leaving Ben, Jack (Matthew Fox), and Sun (Yunjin Kim) at the marina, Sayid goes to a bar, where he meets Ilana (Zuleikha Robinson) and they end up in Sayid's hotel room.  Ilana attacks him, holds him at gunpoint, and brings him aboard Ajira 316.  She tells him that she has been hired to bring Sayid to Guam at the behest of the family of one of Sayid's victims.

Uncharted (2022) Review

"I'm literally in a Papa John's right now." -Victor "Sully" Sullivan Small-time thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is approached by a treasure hunter, Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlburg), with a plan to find a hoard of gold from Magellan's expedition.  Drake joins the quest in order to discover what happened to his brother, but doesn't realize that other treasure hunters are seeking the same loot. What Works: Just getting this out of the way, I have never played any of the Uncharted video games, though they do look fun.  I've just never owned a PlayStation, so I don't really know how well this movie captures the feel of the games, though I've heard there was controversy with the casting.  That said, I think Tom Holland does a really good job.  He's extremely charismatic and sells all of the the impressive feats of dexterity.  He and Mark Wahlberg have good chemistry and their relationship carries the movie. There are also two really awesom

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) Review

Image
"Try anything and you're canceled, bro." A group of entrepreneurs move to the nearly deserted town of Harlow, Texas in order to gentrify the place.  Unfortunately for them, one of the few remaining residents is Leatherface (Mark Burnham).  Leatherface slaughters the hipsters, which draws an old enemy to Harlow, Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré), the sole survivor of the original Massacre.  What Works: The 9th Texas Chainsaw Massacre film is one of the best comedies I have seen in a long time.  Granted, I'm pretty sure it wasn't meant to be a comedy, but some of the best comedies are unintentional.  I laughed so hard that it hurt while watching this film.  The characters, the dialogue, and some of the actions Leatherface takes are hilarious.  I think this film crosses into "so bad, it's good" territory, which I'm a fan of. The one thing this movie gets right that I know was intentional is the gore.  This is probably the bloodiest movie in the series

The Cursed (2022) Review

Image
"We will all pay for the sins made by our elders." -Timmy When a group of gypsies lay claim to his land, Seamus Laurent (Alistair Petrie) has them all murdered.  Soon after, everyone in the village begins to have nightmares about the corpses of the gypsies and their silver.  Then people start to go missing and get attacked by a monstrous creature.  A traveling pathologist, John McBride (Boyd Holbrook), decides to get involved and quickly becomes the only hope for the survivors. What Works: The thing I liked most about The Cursed is the atmosphere.  We get lots of wide landscape shots of the foreboding woods and the fog-covered fields.  It makes you feel like the monster could be anywhere and it increases the tension like crazy. The movie begins with a group of men slaughtering a band of gypsies and it's very well done.  It's all shot in one long take far away from the action.  We don't hear any dialogue or get any close-ups until it's over and we don't ne

"See, you didn't think, Jack, and as I recall, a lot of people ended up dead." -Sawyer "Namaste" starts off with Frank Lapidus (Jeff Fahey) successfully landing the plane on Hydra Island, but his co-pilot dies in the process.  Lapidus, Sun (Yunjin Kim), and Ben (Michael Emerson) realize that the rest of their people have vanished.  Ben decides to leave to the main Island and Sun gets him to show her where some boats are and the location of the Barracks before she knocks him out.  Sun and Lapidus make it to the Barracks where they meet a man who appears to be Christian Shephard (John Terry), who reveals their friends are in 1977. Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) manage to sneak Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), and Hurley (Jorge Garcia) into the Dharma Initiative by making it appear that they came aboard the submarine with a new batch of recruits.  They try their best to blend in while Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) goes to the Flame stati
