Survivor 47: Episode 2 "Epic Boss Girl Move" Gameplay Analysis

Image
"Bro." -TK Foster This was a really fun and satisfying episode of Survivor.   I love when overconfident players get setup for an epic downfall and this was no exception.  TK getting voted out here was hilarious, especially with Kyle's reaction.  It's wild.  After episode 1, if you had told me that TK would be the next person to go, I wouldn't have believed you.  This episode did a great job of showing exactly how we ended up here and I loved every second of it.  Let's get into who played well and who sucked. Who Played Well: We'll start over on the Gata tribe.  I gotta say, Andy made some headway in working his way back into the game.  Although I think he should have taken the Beware Advantage, Andy telling Sam and bonding with him definitely helped his position.  Sam wants to take him further into game at this point. While finding the Beware Advantage with Anika wasn't ideal, I do like that Sam got it.  Keeping it out of Andy's ha...

Community: Season 1, Episode 4 "Social Psychology" Review

"Is this still part of the experiment?" -Troy Barnes "Social Psychology" picks up with Jeff (Joel McHale) avoiding walking to his next class with Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown).  He tells Britta (Gillian Jacobs) that it's because they don't have anything in common to talk about and that Shirley's overly positive attitude can be too much for him.  The next day, when Jeff gets stuck walking with Shirley, it's very awkward until they bond over talking crap about other people.  This works until they see Britta making out with Vaughn (Eric Christian Olsen), a hippie student she had recently started hanging out with, which upsets Jeff. Britta finds Jeff later and says she didn't tell Jeff about Vaughn because she was worried Jeff would make fun of him for his hippie attitude.  Jeff decides not to talk crap about Vaughn with Shirley anymore and when Shirley brings up Vaughn's tiny nipples, Jeff runs away.   Later, Britta tries to talk to Jeff about ...

Survivor 47 Premiere "One Glorious and Perfect Episode" Gameplay Analysis

I'm a wolf in wolf's clothing." -Sam Phalen Survivor is back, baby!  Season 47 got off to a solid start, even if I am disappointed in the first elimination of the season.  I was really looking forward to see Jon get to play.  It's a bummer to see him out first and I also think it was a bad move.  Speaking of bad moves, let's get into who played well and who sucked. Who Played Well: Let's start over on the Lavo tribe.  Genevieve, Kishan, Sol, and Teeny all did well bonding with people and playing the social game.  We saw all of them bond with various people.  Some were over first impressions and general vibes, others were part of the potential anti-Rome alliance.  As of now, I think all of them have some sort of social safety net going into episode 2. Moving over to the Tuku tribe, TK ended up going on the journey for his tribe, which I don't love, but at least it was a game of rock, paper, scissors that sent him.  He missed out on some ...

Speak No Evil (2024) Review

Image
"What is wrong with you?" -Louise Dalton While on vacation in Italy, the Dalton family befriends Paddy (James McAvoy), Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), and their son, Ant (Dan Hough).  Paddy invites the Daltons to visit their farm in the British countryside.  The Daltons agree to go, but the weekend getaway slowly becomes more and more uncomfortable and escaping the farm threatens to turn deadly. What Works: All of the actors give really great performances.  Both McAvoy and Franciosi have great chemistry and, especially in the early parts of the film, they do come across as a really likable and loving couple.  They're both very charming until they're not.  As the film goes on, both of their performances become more unhinged and they absolutely kill it.  I also really like Dan Hough's performance, especially since the character can't speak.  Hough still manages to give a memorable performance. Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy also do a great job, espec...

Community: Season 1, Episode 3 "Introduction to Film" Review

Image
"And how 'bout I pound you like a boy!  That didn't come out right." -Troy Barnes "Introduction to Film" begins with Jeff (Joel McHale) enrolling in an accounting class that he has heard is an easy A.  The class is taught by Professor Whitman (John Michael Higgins), who doesn't have any tests or papers in his class, but they must learn how to "seize the day."  Jeff tells the rest of his study group about the class and most of them sign up, but Abed (Danny Pudi) says he can't because his father, Gobi (Iqbal Theba), will only pay for classes that will help Abed run the family falafel business.  Abed really wants to study film, so Britta (Gillian Jacobs) pays for Abed to enroll in a film class. In Professor Whitman's class, Jeff is called out by the Professor who can tell Jeff is a slacker with no intention of seizing the day.  He tells Jeff that he must genuinely seize the day by the end of the week or he will fail the class.  Jeff tries...

Life is Beautiful The story of a Jewish-Italian family that is sent to a concentration camp during World War II, this is a surprisingly funny movie that mostly focuses on the father of the family trying to shield his young son from the horrors of the cam...

Community: Season 1, Episode 2 "Spanish 101" Review

Image
"I am a Spanish genius!" -Señor Chang "Spanish 101" picks up with Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) purposely running late for his Spanish study group to avoid all the small talk at the beginning of their meetings.  When he does arrive, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) calls him out for being late.  Jeff tries to smooth things over with her, like he's managed to do with the rest of the group, but doesn't really get anywhere. In Spanish class, their instructor,  Señor Chang (Ken Jeong) randomly assigns them partners and tells them that they need to practice a set of Spanish phrases and present them to the class the next day.  Abed (Danny Pudi) and Britta are paired together, but Jeff tires to bribe Abed into switching with him.  Abed agrees in exchange for Jeff's shirt.  However, Britta also switches and Jeff ends up partnered with Pierce (Chevy Chase). When Britta brings up the Guatemalan government murdering journalists, it inspires Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) and ...
