Survivor 47: Episode 12 "Operation: Italy" Gameplay Analysis
"She's gotta sleep with the fishes."
-Andy Rueda
Wow, this was fun! I loved everything about this episode. The editors, the players, and production all had a blast putting this thing together. I'm always down to see the game get shaken up, and Andy did it in style with Operation: Italy, which is a great name for his plan. I just really enjoyed the the way Andy, Sam, and Genevieve put this plan together and executed it. It made for a great episode. Let's take a look at who played well and who sucked.
Who Played Well:
Obviously we have to start with Andy, Genevieve, and Sam. I think Sam started off with a bad move in taking Genevieve on Reward with him. He already had her on his side. I think he would have been better off taking Sue, someone who really plays with her emotions. However, Sam's pick ended up working out for him when Andy pitched Operation: Italy. They really thought it out and came up with a great plan to get the rest of the Underdog Alliance to split their vote. There was definitely some questionably performances in the lies of Andy and Genevieve, but they pulled it off. After Rachel won Immunity, I think Caroline was the next best choice. She's a better player than either Teeny or Sue and this breaks up the tightest duo in the game. Well played by all three of them.
Rachel was fooled by Operation: Italy, but she did win Immunity and saved herself from being the target of the plan, so I'll give her enough credit to make her net positive. It helps that she still has all of her hardware.
Who Sucked:
Sue and Teeny were both fooled by Operation: Italy as well, but they didn't have anything else going on in the episode that helped their games. Sue was seen as too close to Caroline. From Day 1, she's done a bad job at hiding her closest relationships, which is what made Caroline a target.
Teeny did a bad job of controlling her emotions and is letting it cloud her judgment. I really don't like how snippy she got with Genevieve and she should have insisted to see the note from Genevieve's Idol. It's absolutely fair to ask for receipts. She fell for Genevieve's lie, which I thought seemed unconvincing, and had she pushed a little more, she could have stopped Operation: Italy in its tracks.
As for Caroline, like Sue, she did a bad job of hiding how close they were. With Rachel immune, Caroline was the better player of the tightest duo in the game. Of course she would be targeted.
Verdict:
Best Player of the Episode goes to Andy Rueda for coming up with Operation: Italy, pulling it off, and getting the credit in front of the Jury.
Worst Player of the Episode goes to Teeny Chirichillo for her overly emotional gameplay and being fooled by Operation: Italy the most.
This was a great episode and really shakes things up going into the final 6. I'm curious to see how this 2-part finale is going to work. Are we going to get the final 6 and final 5 eliminations in part 1, with the fire-making challenge, Final Tribal Council, and the After Show in part 2? No matter what the breakdown is, I'm excited to see where this goes.
