Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, Episode 11 "Everyone Will Be Shooketh!" Gameplay Breakdown
"I feel kind of evil right now."
-Aubry Bracco
When Jeff announced there was going to be another new twist during this episode, I groaned, but I have to admit, I thought the Power Broker twist was actually fun. I enjoyed Jonathan's back and forth strategizing. This is a twist I wouldn't mind seeing again, but I am ready to be done with twists for this season. Anyway, let's get into who played well and who sucked.
Who Played Well:
We'll start with the Power Broker himself, Jonathan. He won Immunity, which got him through two votes and gave him the Power Broker advantage, he blindsided Ozzy, and helped flush Devens' Idol. However, I do think he missed a golden opportunity. After Devens played his Idol and we went to a revote between Emily and Cirie, I think he should have flipped on Cirie. It would have been a case of two birds, one stone, and Cirie is an infinitely bigger threat than Emily.
Cirie did the best she could do with this twist. She wasn't able to save Ozzy, despite her best efforts, but she did use her Extra Vote perfectly to outplay Devens and Emily, flush his Idol, and knock Emily out of the game.
Devens never knew about Cirie's Extra Vote. You can only ever do the best you can with the information you have. I think Devens did the best he could here and saved himself with his Idol. Good enough.
Aubry did an excellent job of blowing up Ozzy's game. It was a group effort, but she got the ball rolling towards Ozzy's demise.
Joe may be difficult to work with, but he did get his way and got Rizo in on the plan to take out Ozzy, which I don't think was in Rizo's best interest. He has no chance of winning, but Joe still has this relationship with Rizo to work with going forward.
Finally, Tiffany was a part of the Idol split on Devens and Emily. It was effective, but I do think she should have at least considered flipping on Cirie along with Jonathan.
Who Sucked:
The only remaining contestant I have here is Rizo. I think he would have been better served in telling Ozzy to play his Idol. The hardware would be gone, but Rizo would still have a close ally in the game. Unless Rizo is planning on going to the end with Joe and Jonathan, this was a bad plan.
As for Emily, this was a situation where she did all she could. She just didn't have all the information. Now, if she hadn't been such a wildcard all season and completely untrustworthy, maybe Cirie or Tiffany would have been more inclined to work with her instead of targeting her.
Ozzy got a little too comfortable. I don't know what he was thinking in telling Aubry everything about his game. He was like a magician revealing his secrets before the magic trick was even finished. He gave Aubry a ton of ammo to target him with. This felt entirely self-inflicted.
Verdict:
Since two people went home, I'll give out two Best Players of the Episode. The first one goes to Cirie Fields for using her Extra Vote to outplay Devens and Emily and send Emily out of the game.
Since two people went home, I'll give out two Best Players of the Episode. The first one goes to Cirie Fields for using her Extra Vote to outplay Devens and Emily and send Emily out of the game.
The second one goes to Jonathan Young for winning Immunity and the Power Broker Advantage, blindsiding Ozzy, and getting Devens to play his Idol, while knocking Emily out of the game.
I only have one Worst Player of the Episode and that is Rizo Velovic for not warning Ozzy that he was being targeted. He cut one of his allies for no good reason. As a reminder, the eliminated players are not eligible for either Award.
Like I said, I hope we're done with twists as we ramp up to the finale. I'm good at this point, but I'm excited to see how everything plays out. I'm predicting Aubry wins now that my original winner pick, Emily, is out of the game.
