South Park: Season 23, Episode 4 "Let Them Eat Goo" Review

"You just got pwned by a towel."
-Randy Marsh

After suspending business with China, Randy and Towlie expand their business into food by creating the Tegridy burger; a meatless burger made from marijuana.  They are a massive success, but forced the cattle ranchers out of business and one of them leaves all of his cows at Tegridy Farms for Randy to deal with.  He and Towlie get high and shoot all of the cows.

At South Park Elementary, the cafeteria food has been changed to healthier options, which causes Cartman to get so upset he has a heart attack.  The school changes the menu back and Wendy leads a faction of the school to protest.  A compromised is reached when The Goo Man, the owner of a meatless-meat company starts to supply the school's food.  Cartman doesn't even notice the difference until Butters, who feels guilty for deceiving Cartman, spills the beans.

Footage of Randy and Towlie shooting the cows is released, which causes everyone to turn against Tegridy Farms and The Goo Man is reveled to be behind everything.  He also tells Cartman that the goo used in his meat is not healthy for you either.  Cartman informs the school of this and is fine with the new food because it's still not good for you and tastes good.  He doesn't mind if it's more sustainable and ethical as long as it's still tasty garbage.

What Works:

I absolutely loved this episode and it's my favorite in a long time.  I was cracking up constantly as the episode not only had a message, but was also funny; the perfect South Park formula.

Cartman vs. Wendy is always a surefire way to get some laughs and that was definitely the case here.  I found myself squarely on Team Cartman, but still really enjoyed the two of them going at it.  The ending was absolute gold with Cartman's speech.  The food still tastes good, that's really all that matters to him (and me, sorry not sorry), but it is still more sustainable and ethical.  That's what I call a win-win.  South Park's point is that we shouldn't pretend that the meatless-meat stuff is actually good for you.  It might be healthier, but it's not healthy.

Randy's storyline was also brilliant.  The best part of Tegridy Farms is Randy and Towlie working together and we get a ton of that.  Towlie eating 12 burgers is great, but we also get an amazing montage sequence of Randy and Towlie killing cows.  It's amazing and I almost cried from laughing so hard.

Finally, I've never seen There Will Be Blood so I didn't get The Goo Man reference, but it doesn't matter.  That character was so absurd that I loved it.  I hope he returns in later episodes because he's a lot of fun.

What Sucks:

I've got nothing for you.

Verdict:

"Let Them Eat Good" is by far the best episode of Season 23 and is truly outstanding.  Both storylines were hilarious and tied together really well.  The message was on point and the characters were on their A-game.  This episode has absolutely got it going on.

 10/10: Amazing
