Ranking The Wishmaster Films

Now that I've finally sat through all four Wishmaster films, and since I have nothing better to do because I have no life, I figured now is as good a time as any to rank the Wishmaster movies.  Hopefully, this ranking is everything you wished for.

I apologize.

#1: Wishmaster (1997)

Let's get the easy one out of the way.  Obviously the original Wishmaster is the best one.  This is mainly due to Andrew Divoff, who gives a phenomenal performance as the evil Djinn.  He is the highlight of the first two movies and shines every time he is on screen.  Plus the kills and the practical effects are at the top of their game in this film.  Yes, the CGI is terrible and the protagonist is awful, but at least this movie knows exactly what it is: a dumb horror movie, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else.  And I can respect that.

 6/10: Ok

#2: Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999)

Wishmaster 2 has a lot of the high-points that the original had.  Again, Andrew Divoff is amazing as the Djinn.  He's simply a ton of fun to watch.  And again, the practical effects are great.  Because the budget for this movie was much lower, they don't use the effects as often, but when they do, they are great.  Plus, the protagonist isn't annoying this time!  She's nothing special, but she's serviceable.  The  problems are worse this time around.  The CGI is still terrible, but this movie starts the unfortunate trend of inconsistencies in the rules the Djinn has to follows.  Some of what he does in this movie simply doesn't make sense.  Finally, the 3rd act is kind of lame.

 5/10: Meh

#3: Wishmaster: The Prophecy Fulfilled (2002)

The 4th Wishmaster film has the best protagonist of the series and probably the best acting overall.  Plus it has a plot that is completely different from the first three films, so I give it credit for doing something different.  Michael Trucco is an acceptable replacement for Andrew Divoff.  He's not nearly as good, but he's fine.  The problems are that the ending sucks and the kills aren't anything special.  Plus the plot feels aimless at points at it's a bit unclear exactly what the Djinn is trying to accomplish.

 5/10: Meh

#4: Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell (2001)

This is the only outright bad movie in the series.  The only good parts of Wishmaster 3 are the two car crash stunts.  I have to admit, they are pretty impressive for a straight-to-video film.  But that's it for redeeming qualities.  Jason Connery is a lackluster replacement for Andrew Divoff.  The acting and directing are both god-awful, the rules the Djinn has to follow are again thrown out the window, and the kills themselves are simply boring.  If a straight-to-video horror sequel gets one thing right, it should be the kills, and Wishmaster 3 can't even do that.

 2/10: Terrible

So, what do you think?  Did I nail this ranking or am I complete idiot?  What is your ranking?  Let me know!
